Public Administration Career
There are many different careers in public administration that you can get into. They are civil servants who implement policies to executive government. If you choose to go into this career field there are many different levels of public services to choose from – there are jobs in the city, county, state and federal level. Public Administration Department and pursue a career in this field can be very rewarding because you are helping to shape the future, but this career can also be very challenging.
After completing your degree in public administration you should have an idea whether you want to go to the government or non-government thing. If you choose to avoid your government may be working in the non-profit, unless you decide to pursue a different career than what your degree is preparing you for at all.
You also can switch gears mid-career without deviating from the field of public administration. Maybe you started your career in a government agency that provides awards to nonprofit institutions and then move on to careers in fund raising for nonprofits. One involves the grant review and others involve grant writing, so many overlapping skills.
Careers in this field requires administrative skills, strong understanding of accounting and finance, knowledge of the workings of government and organizational abilities. There is a career in local government agencies and nonprofit agencies, state governments, federal government, public service organizations such as animal welfare and health agencies and large nonprofit organizations at the national level. Nonprofit organization support organizations that range from art to charities that help fight cancer international aid agencies.
As a public administrator you will be concerned with things such as evaluating social programs, provide services to individuals and groups, setting and implementing policies and factors other intangible. There is room for career development, financial planning, human resources, marketing, public relations and many other areas in this field. Are you better off working directly with people or behind the screen, in any capacity, there is a career in public administration for you.
